Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Daphne specializes in a type of therapy called Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The premise behind DBT is that some people are prone to react with more intensity than others toward certain emotional situations, primarily those found in relationships. DBT suggests that some people’s arousal levels in such situations can increase far more quickly than the average person’s, reach a higher level of emotional stimulation, and take a longer amount of time to return to baseline levels. Because few people understand such reactions, they don’t have any methods for coping with their sudden, intense surges of emotion. DBT is a method for teaching skills that will help with this.
